General notes:
Through the 1960s, Sir Ian Mactaggart had gradually acquired all the older (and by now largely derelict) property on Main Street, and in 1970 the whole area was flattened. It was replaced by an enclosed shopping precinct (now 'The Avenue' shopping centre) This maps shows the area in the decades prior that redevelopment.
