General notes:
Eastwood District Council existed from 1975 - 1996. The information in this booklet is as follows:OFFICIAL BLAZON:Argent, Issuant from a mount in base a wood of oak-trees, fructed proper, charged with an eastern crown Or, on a chief wavy Azure, on a pale of the first a saltire Sable charged in the centre with a hedgehog of the second, in dexter chief a fleur-de-lis of the last, and in sinister chief a cross-crosslet firchee issuant from a crescent of the first. Above the shield is placed a Coronet appropriate to a statutory District, videlicet:- a circlet richly chased from which are issuant eight thistlle-heads (three and two halves visibly) Or; which Ensigns Armorial are to be borne by the said Authority as from 16th May, 1975.INTERPRETATION:The lower part of the shield is a heraldic quotation for "Eastwood". The chief or upper part of the shield contains (looking from left to right) references to the ownership of the old varonies, viz. (1) Montgomerie (for Eastwood and Eaglesham); (2) Maxwell (for mearns); and (3) Cathcart (for Cathcart). The wavy line of the chief referes to the River Cart.
