The Crum family of Thornliebank were renowned industrialists in the Thornliebank, Busby and Mearns area and founded the local calico printing business, which included the Thornliebank Printworks and Busby Mills. John Crum bought the works in 1778, and for over 100 years the cotton and printing industries flourished, allowing the growth of Busby and Thornliebank villages. Prominent family members include Alexander Crum Esq., Walter Crum and John Crum.
