General notes:
Miss John Maxwell was the last of the Maxwells to own Williamwood. She sold it to Major Morrison in 1812 and he, in turn, sold it to Glasgow merchant James Stewart Snr of the commercial house of Findlay & Co in 1817. James Stewart Jnr was born in 1834 and became a captain of the Queen's Lancers. He died in 1906 aged 72 and is buried in Cathcart Old Churchyard.
