General notes:
This photo shows the first tram to Clarkston on 16 August 1921, when Glasgow Corporation extended the service from Netherlee to Stamperland and then to the final Clarkston terminus in Mearns Road on the 1 October 1921. The extension had been started by Belgian refugees in 1914 but owing to war conditions work did not re-start until February 1921. It was a yellow tram route which became Service 5 on 3 May 1938 to Kirklee. The tram service first entered the district on 17 June 1905 with a route from Newlands to Eastwood Toll and then Rouken Glen on 13 April 1906.At this time, the tram stopped on the Glasgow side of the bridge. The gentleman on the top of the tram at the front is a Mr. Frank Morris of Shawlands/Nethercliffe Avenue. He worked for the American company who put up the overhead cables for the tram, McCartney & McElroy
