General notes:
The houses of the Oval are built on what was the ground of Stamperland Farm in the 1930s when a huge housing boom transformed a mainly agricultural area into a residential suburb of 2 storey, semi detached or terrace houses. Initially this land had been part of the Williamwood Estate owned by the Maxwell family. From 1817 to 1927, it belonged to the Stewart family. Firms involved in house building in the area were Mactaggart and Mickel Ltd. (in Clarkston since 1909) and John Lawrence who built the Stamperland houses. During WW2 firms advertised this as a desirable area as a safe haven from the bombing in Glasgow.
