General notes:
This photograph shows the ladies' football match, played as part of Neilston Cattle Show, run annually for over 170 years. The teams were from the two Neilston churches and the referee was the Rev. Fraser Aitken. Neilston Agricultural Society originated in the old 'Cow Fair' held in May in the Big Square. The Cow Fair declined and with the encouragement of Capt. Anderson of Broadlie (a Waterloo veteran) it became the Cattle Show, held on his Broadlie estate. The Society was formed in 1826 and the Cattle Show takes place the first Saturday of May. As well as agricultural classes, livestock judging and sheepdog trials, other events are run to involve local residents.
