General notes:
In December 1724, John Barry, a carrier, raised a toast to King James VIII at the inn "whereupon Robert Clark who dwelt at Kirkhill and was an elder forbye, did assault him" Mearns folk were anti-Jacobite. About 1900, the Red Lion Inn served hot pies and glasses of porter to people attending morning service at Mearnskirk who had travelled a distance. The horses could be stabled at the inn. The Red Lion was demolished in the mid-1930s.
