General notes:
The Packhorse Bridge is at Craigmill, East Kilbride, near to Eaglesham and is over 300 years old. It was built only wide enough to allow a packhorse to carry grain over the stream to the mill. The last miller, Mr. James Stewart, himself carried out essential repairs to the bridge with the aid of a Dalrymple Trust Grant to save it from crumbling. It may be the only packhorse bridge in the country. A legend is that a miller's wife acquired a white duck from a ghostly figure. By placing the duck's eggs on the bridge, they were guaranteed more grain than ever. According to the legend they carried out the instructions successfully.
