General notes:
The old Malletsheugh Inn was for many years a landmark on the Kilmarnock Road (the name Mallet may come from a Norman family) and was originally a coaching Inn. It was replaced in 1968 and 1988 by modern buildings. It became more prominent after the 'New Line' or new road from Glasgow to Kilmarnock was completed in 1832. It ran from Eastwood Toll to cross the old Kilmarnock Road at Loganswell. The first records of the lands of Pollok being divided appear in the Register of the Abbey of Paisley about 1296. One of the witnesses was Gilberto de Malotishok. In 1509 malletsheugh was sold to James Beaton, Archibishop of Glasgow.
