General notes:
Erected around 1880, the Westbourne Halls were a popular entertainment centre for many years. For example, the Mechanics' Institute ran a series of concerts on Saturday evenings, with performers such as Harry Lauder in his early years. The opening of Scott's Picture House in the early twentieth century led to the demise of the Halls' popularity however.
