General notes:
Bleaching of cloth was traditionally undertaken by women, while the men concentrated on printing and dyeing. Some of the women in the photograph probably came to Barrhead from the Highlands or Ireland in search of work. Two of the ladies can be identified: back row 2nd left is Rose McFadyen, and back row 1st left is Jeanie Campbell, who later married Rose's brother. (information from Mrs. Gillan, Rose's grand-daughter).
