General notes:
Driver: Bob Kirkwood (Old Tooley), Bob is believed to have come from the "best" family in Newton Mearns. His wife was considered the best baker in Mearns. Conductor: Wee Willie Hughes, Willie later worked for Porters at Mearns Cross and lodged with Mr & Mrs Jamieson. The station yard filled twice a day with private carriages from the 'uplands'. The horse bus from Mearns had many a race in the morning to catch the train and the railways benefitted from the horse bus passengers from out of town villages. There were three morning trains from Giffnock to town. The first one at 8 o'clock was for clerks, the second at 9 o'clock was for head clerks and the third one at 10 o'clock was said to be for governors and ladies.
