General notes:
St. Joseph's R.C. Church was built in 1880, and included a school within the church grounds. The first priest was Father Mueller. Originally he had to travel round his parish to say Mass in Mearns, Eaglesham and East Kilbride, but by WWII St. Joseph's had three priests. A new and larger church was built on the same site in 1971.
