General notes:
Wraes Mill was an old water powered mill between Barrhead and Neilston on the Kirkton Burn. The surviving C-Listed building is probably early 19th century although there is an early reference to a grain mill on this site in a bond taken out in 1668. Ingenious engineering allowed a single water wheel to be used, not just to turn the mill stone that ground the grain but to power the whole process beginning with the lifting of the full sacks and ending with the filling of the sacks with flour. Wraes Mill continued to operate as a working mill until 1967. The buildings have now been converted into two houses.
