From the late thirteenth century to the early twentieth century, the lands of Caldwell belonged to the Mure family. Caldwell Tower is likely to have been built in the sixteenth century, and is thought to stand on the site of the medieval Castle of Caldwell. There has been some interest in converting it into a house.
