General notes:
Robert Adam was commissioned to design a mansion house by Baron Mure in 1773, and the result was Caldwell House. Estate duties and taxation led to the house being let in the later nineteenth century, and it was sold to Glasgow Corporation in 1920, when it was used as a hospital for children with mental and physical disabilities.
