General notes:
The poet Robert Pollok died in Southampton in 1827, having planned to travel to Italy to improve his poor health. His resting place at Millbrook churchyard, two miles from Southampton, is marked by an obelisk made of Peterhead granite, which proclaims, ‘His Immortal Poem is his Monument'. The monument in this picture was erected in 1900.
