General notes:
The exact date of the opening of Thornliebank School is unknown, as school records were destroyed when fire swept through the building in 1895. However, we do know that the original was opened before the end of 1877. Its replacement, as shown in this image, opened on 5th January 1897.The new school was designed by the architect W. G. Rowan and took on secondary education as well from 1899-1905.
