General notes:
Thornliebank Parish Church was founded in February 1836 as Thornliebank village grew with the influx of workers to the Crum family's calico printworks. Their services were held in the Thorntree Hall for up to 400 people. In May 1855, the new church building, Thornliebank United Presbyterian Church opened at Speirsbridge and was further extended in 1883. Alexander and William Crum donated a window 'to the memory of those who have gone before'. It became a United Free Church in 1900, and was renamed Thornliebank Speirsbridge Church of Scotland, after the union of 1929 between the Free Church and the Church of Scotland. On 8th September 1977, the church united with the Thornliebank Woodlands Church of Scotland where services were held. The Spiersbridge church became a church hall from 1980 and was finally sold and converted to flats in 1990.
