General notes:
The CPA (Calico Printers Association) was formed early in the twentieth century, in order to merge firms in the calico printing trade. Its headquarters were in Manchester. As the cotton trade declined after the First World War and worsened in the 1930s, many smaller and then larger works were closed, including the South Arthurlie Printworks.
