General notes:
In his book on John Robertson published in 1989, Martin Hughson notes that "The first memorial to John Robertson was an inscribed stone in Neilston Parish Churchyard which is still in good condition but now lying flat". We know from previous monumental inscription records that the inscription on the stone read "John Robertson, engineer, inventor & erector of the engine in the Comet in 1811 [sic] first sailed Clyde 1818, first propelled by steam that regularly traded in Europe. Born here 10.12.1782, died Glasgow 19.11.1868." 2012 marks 200 years since the launch of the Comet, and at the time of writing, it is hoped that this memorial stone could be restored in this anniversary year.
