Eliza retired from her position as Infants' Mistress at Barrhead High School in 1951, but she was tempted back into teaching a short while later, this time at Broomlea, a private school for girls in Whitecraigs. She taught there until she was 78 years old, by which time her teaching career had spanned a remarkable 65 years.
