This is one of a set of photographs showing the interior of Shanks & Co. Ltd. The date is given as c.1900 but it could be as late as the 1920s. This photograph is probably the Cabinet Shop and at the back you can see the wooden units for Shanks' folding ships' lavatories. The Cabinet Shop produced high quality, ornate carpentry and must have required extremely skilled workers.
