Following serious illness, Stuart Block marries his girlfriend Marie. His marriage is short-lived as she soon develops a passion for protesting the badger cull, as well as for Henry, a handsome protestor. She leaves to live in the Gloucester woods but Stuart refuses to admit it's over, feigning an interest in badgers in order to win her back. He wins few friends in the forest, but is confident he can save his marriage. However, Marie's new relationship and his own burgeoning interest in Kerry, a badger-activist, leads him to embrace a new life. He agrees to a divorce and starts a romance with Kerry but he soon begins to suspect she has a secret, which he discovers just as he stands on the edge of finding happiness again. Stuart must choose between keeping silent or revealing a truth that will risk ruining lives.
