General notes:
This time capsule was placed inside a memorial stone (probably the cornerstone) at the beginning of building the new Barrhead Public School in Water Road. It was a subscription school meaning that the money to build the school was donated by public spirited individuals. There were 36 of these subscribers ranging from the Earl of Glasgow who donated £100 and Zechariah Johns Heys, George Heys and Henry Heys who donated £75 each, down to individuals who donated sixpence each. The school was opened in 1871 with full masonic honours.
