Becoming a member

Joining the library in East Renfrewshire is free, quick and easy. You can join at any branch of the library by presenting proof of your name and current address. You can use your library card to request, borrow and return books at any of the 10 East Renfrewshire libraries and access online resources including Borrowbox, Pressreader, and Ancestry.

Register online

You may join the library online by clicking on the button below after you have read and accepted the membership conditions. Once you have completed the online registration form you will be sent a welcome email that contains your library card number. You can start using our online services straightaway.

On your first visit to the library to collect your new membership card you’ll be asked to bring one piece of identification. This can be a passport, driving licence or a bill with your full postal address. If you qualify for a concession, you’ll also need to provide proof of your status, such as a pension book.

Conditions of membership

• To borrow items you must present your library membership card.
• You may borrow up to 16 items on your card. These can be borrowed from and returned to any branch of the Library Service.
• Items may be renewed online or at any branch. Staff are happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours, please have your library card number on hand. If a reservation has been placed on an item you have on loan a renewal is not permitted.
• Membership may be suspended if you have overdue items and outstanding charges.
• A reservation and/or inter-library loan service is available for those items which are on loan, available at another branch or at another library service. You can place your own reservations for most items via the public access catalogues at our branches or through the Library Service online catalogue.
• All costs incurred by the Library due to items lost or damaged whilst in your care must be reimbursed.
• If you change your address or name please notify us immediately.
• Please report lost cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.
• Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties.
