General notes:
The cottages in the photograph were demolished by Glasgow Corporation in 1927. In 1725 the Maxwell family abandoned their mansion house at Williamwood and took up residence at Cathcart Castle, which had recently been renovated. This was their main residence until 1750, when the family returned to Williamwood to live in their new mansion.
