General notes:
In the 19th century, Uplawmoor was mainly an estate village for workers on the Caldwell estate (handloom weavers, cobblers, shoemakers, harness weavers). In the early 20th century, William Mure had planned to make Uplawmoor an attractive 'garden' village, but died before his plans could be put into action.
