General notes:
McCrone's Farm, Thornliebank dates from the years when Giffnock was a rural area and McCrone's with the Orchard Farm land, stretched from Robslee to Park Road and right up to Burnfield Road. McCrone's Farm was demolished to make way for Woodfarm High School which opened as a Junior Secondary School in September 1962. By 1978 it was a local six year comprehensive, taking pupils from Giffnock, Robslee, Braidbar and Thornliebank. Giffnock had been a scattered, rather isolated farming community until about 1789 when the Earl of Eglinton was forced to sell off land in a number of small properties in order to raise finances.
