General notes:
Photograph of Mrs Margaret Pollock Glen of Carlibar, affectionately known as 'Lady Glen' who was a great benefactor in the Barrhead/Neilston area. She was born Margaret Pollok at Malletsheugh Farm, Newton Mearns in 1824 and moved to North Walton Farm, Neilston. She married Capt. Robert Glen who died suddenly in 1871 just before their move into the mansion, Carlibar House. She inherited a fortune from her uncle Robert Craig, 'Rhoosan' or 'Russian Rab' who had large thread mills on the River Neva near Leningrad. Having known poverty in her youth, Mrs. Glen spent the rest of her life donating money to many social improvements such as the building of the Glen Halls, Neilston, £1000 towards the new Municipal Buildings in Barrhead and many more until her death in 1913. From Barrhead Museum Collection B1794. Lady Glen died at Carlibar House on 2 May, 1913 aged 89. From Barrhead Museum Collection B2123. Lady Glen died at Carlibar House on 2 May, 1913 aged 89 years
