General notes:
Private James Thomson of Shawlands was in the Highland Light Infantry. The accompanying missing in action letter was sent to his family by his battalion's chaplain in 1918. It turned out that Private Thomson had been taken prisoner by German troops. However, he returned from the war and was married at Marlborough House in Shawlands in April 1931.
