General notes:
The Arthurlie Cross probably dates from the ninth century, but only its shaft remains. The area was evangelised at the time of St. Conval, a contempary of St. Mungo, who founded a Priory at Inchinnan. In the late eighteenth century, the Cross was discovered being used as a footbridge across the Kirkton Burn. In later years it was re-erected in this prominent position in Barrhead. It has been suggested that the name may date back to King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
