General notes:
William Gemmell (1814-1891)of Eaglesham was a joiner and self taught sculptor who created life sized statues. Only six of these statues are now known to be in existence. They were passed down through the family until the last family owner, Mary Picken, found that she was unable to support their custody any longer. The were passsed to Eastwood District Council in December 1994.
