The following information was taken from 'Old Newton Mearns' by Anne Loudon and David Kidd: Arthur Gilmour lived in Townhead House at this time. the original clubhouse was a Nissen steel bow hut purchased for the sum of £35. The green was laid out by Robert Provan of Rutherglen and cost £1050.
