When Elizabeth's father, who was a manufacturing agent, died suddenly she decided to continue his business for a few months just to wind it up. Instead, she became an agent for 40 years, eventually retiring in 1986. She took on the role at a time when there were few lady agents but eventually became the first lady President of the Manufacturer's Agents Association in 1969 and is shown here wearing the chain of office. Elizabeth describes this in her own words in 'Women of Eastwood and East Renfrewshire' by Eastwood District Libraries, 1994 (In the folder: East Renfrewshire 3/People held at Giffnock Heritage Centre)
