Busby Railway Station was opened on 1st January 1866 to serve Busby's expanding textile industry. Joseph Wakefield of Inglis & Wakefield who owned Busby Printworks was chairman of the Busby Railway Company which in 1865 extended the track from Pollokshaws to East Kilbride.
